QUESTION:

Is it a good idea to give my Labrador a ‘fast day’ once every two weeks?

ANSWER:

Remember the call of the wild; dogs can go days in the wild without food and without starving!

Yes, it is absolutely a good idea to give your Labrador a 'fast day' once every two weeks.

Please remember: DO NOT succumb to begging, looking sad and generally using all the manipulation strategies under the sun – if the bowl is empty, that does not mean your Labrador needs more!

It is your job to control the amount of food your Labrador eats – we strongly recommend you give your Labrador’s digestive tract and stomach the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate by fasting once every 14 days.

If you are particularly weak-willed…

We all know what “that” puppy-dog look can do – it literally melts your heart.

We recommend you read “The Facts” section on pages 81-82 to familiarize yourself with a dog’s natural diet. If you absolutely must feed your Labrador more food, toss some green beans, carrots, or other low-calorie vegetables into the bowl and tell your doggie, “It’s because I love you!”
