QUESTION:
I think my Labrador is overweight – am I feeding him too often?
ANSWER:
A growing number of dogs are suffering from Obesity and a range of associated
health problems from being overweight.
There are two main causes of Canine Obesity: the poor ingredients in
commercial pet foods and owners’ feeding their dogs too much, too often.
It is vital that, as a responsible Labrador owner, you respect the natural eating patterns of dogs in nature.
Domesticated dogs share a very close genetic relationship with wild dogs such as jackals, wolves and dingos.
Wild dogs do not eat daily. When food is hard to find, they can go for days and sometimes weeks without eating. Of course, we don’t recommend you leave your dog without eating for days, but you should be aware that full-grown wolves ideally get only 5 pounds of food a day and can survive on 2 ½ pounds of food per day.
Like dogs, wolves don’t know their limits and they eat whenever they can – often gorging over 20 pounds in a single sitting. Your dog will do the same unless you limit its intake.
Your dog doesn’t know any better, but you do!
We have devised an exclusive and effective 7-Step Recovery Program to help
your overweight Labrador return to its natural weight, health and vitality.
