QUESTION:

My Labrador has arthritis: please can you explain the difference between Osteoarthritis and Hip/Elbow/Knee Dysplasia?

ANSWER:

Many, many Labradors have arthritis, as a result of poor diets and occasionally in reaction to vaccine poisoning.

The two main types of arthritis are:

1. Osteoarthritis

A chronic, slowly progressing condition that is caused by the breakdown and destruction of your Labrador’s cartilage. As this occurs, the bony structures begin to rub against one another causing arthritis pain and discomfort.

2. Hip/Elbow/Knee Dysplasia

Dysplasia is characterized by a malformed "ball and joint" socket in your dog. As you might expect, this ill-fitting combination causes a series of complications.

You may notice that your Labrador’s joints are malformed, resulting in “bone chips” of built-up calcium, which are very painful.

THERE IS GOOD NEWS!!!

Although arthritis is fairly common amongst Labradors, it is a condition that responds well to alternative remedies and there are many, many treatments available which provide much-needed relief, which you can find on pages 76-78 of Labrador Health For Life!
