QUESTION:

Please can you tell me what I should be looking for in pet toothpaste?

ANSWER:

Another great question – and a really important one, because human toothpaste is not suitable for your Labrador’s dental care.

It is vital that you choose a pet-specific toothpaste, and there are many on the market today.

When you’re looking in the ingredients on the tube, two active elements which dental veterinarians recommend are chlorhexidine or hexametaphosphate.

Ideally, your toothpaste will contain both.

In addition to toothpastes, there are a wide range of gels and rinses available. Again, those that contain chlorhexidine are recommended.
