QUESTION:
Is it true that commercial pet food (canned food and kibbles) is one of the main causes of illness and premature death in today’s Labradors?
ANSWER:
Thank you for your question, which is one we are frequently asked in our surgeries.
An increasing number of serious health problems are caused directly by
feeding our companions commercially-produced dog food.
Everyday, Labrador owners across the globe subject their pets to a diet consisting of waste from slaughterhouses, deadly chemicals, harmful toxins and grains which are nutritionally unsuitable for their beloved family pets.
Despite the fact that pet food manufacturers claim to provide your dog with “Complete and Balanced Nutrition”, if you’re not very, very careful, you may end up feeding your companion:
- Cancerous material cut from slaughterhouse animals
- Tissue high in hormone or pesticide residues
Can this really be true?
We at the International Association of Veterinary Care not only know that this is true – we treat Labrador illnesses directly related to the poor quality of nutrients in commercial dog foods every single day.
The vast majority of all the pet food we feed our dogs comes from large, multinational corporations:
Colgate Palmolive makes Hills Science Diet
Proctor & Gamble makes Eukanuba and Iams
Nestle makes Alpo, Mighty Dog, Friskie, Purina products
Heinz makes Gravy Train, Kibbles-n-Bits, Amore, Gravy Train and Nature's Recipe
Mars makes Kal Kan, Mealtime, Pedigree,Walthams and Nutro
It is alarming to see what is legally acceptable for these firms to use as ingredients in our dog foods.
Pet food provides a market for slaughterhouse offal, grains considered “unfit for human consumption,” and other animal waste products to be turned into profit (this waste includes diseased and cancerous animal parts).
Although the foods we feed our Labradors may be advertised as providing our dogs with choice cuts of meat, healthy vegetables and golden grains to provide "complete and balanced nutrition" – nothing could be further from the truth!
The advertising may suggest our dogs are eating prime beef and succulent chickens, but on closer inspection, this is absolutely not the case. After all, pet food is an $11,000,000,000 dollar industry in the USA alone. Profits, unfortunately, count much more than your four-legged friend’s health.
Recent studies have shown commercially-produced pet foods are a factor in increasing the numbers of pets suffering from skin complaints, arthritis, heart disease, tooth decay, obesity and cancer.
According to research at the International Association of Veterinary Care, the lifespan of many breeds is now less than half of what it was two or three years ago.
To find out precisely why your Labrador’s main cause of illnesses and increasing vet’s bills is the commercially-produced food it is fed, please see pages 11-22 of Labrador Health For Life!
